24 February 2025

In celebration of Love Hornbills Day 2025, Dr. Nongluk Chawankul, Business Enablement Manager, and Dr. Bowornsak Wanichkul, Government Relations & Sustainability Lead of Bangchak Sriracha Public Company Limited, inaugurated the event 'Love Hornbills Day: Speak Love, Save the World' alongside Mr. Narongwit Chodchoi, Director of Khao Kheow Open Zoo, and Dr. Pranpariya Wongsaa, Director of the Knowledge Network Bureau at the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA). The event took place on 13 February at the Large Aviary Exhibition, Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Si Racha District, Chonburi Province.

Love Hornbills Day aims to raise awareness about the importance of hornbill conservation. These birds play a crucial role in maintaining forest ecosystems but are currently endangered. The Great Hornbill, one of 13 large hornbill species, is also facing the threat of extinction. Thanks to conservation efforts, Khao Kheow Open Zoo has successfully bred Great Hornbills in sufficient numbers for release back into the wild. BSRC has partnered with Khao Kheow Open Zoo and GISTDA to launch the 'Bio-Conservation: A Mission for Biodiversity' initiative. This project supports the zoo's efforts in breeding Great Hornbills while leveraging GISTDA's expertise in space technology by developing compact GPS tracking devices. These devices will be attached to the birds before their release, allowing researchers to monitor their movements and adaptation to the wild. By integrating space and geo-informatics technology, this initiative enhances conservation management and ensures biodiversity sustainability.

With BSRC’s vision of 'Shaping sustainable future with premier energy through innovative solutions', the company is committed to promoting sustainability across all dimensions, particularly in environmental conservation and biodiversity preservation. The Great Hornbill symbolizes BSRC’s dedication to restoring nature’s beauty and ensuring a sustainable future for the next generation.
